The oldest house in North Carolina is the Van Der Veer House, which is located in Edenton. It was built in 1719 by a Dutchman named Jan Van Der Veer as a home and trading post. The house is considered a rare surviving example of early colonial architecture in the state. It has been restored and is now open to the public as a historic site.
